Response to the BIS consultation on the role and powers of Consumer Advocate

Summary

The OFT responded to the BIS consultation on the role and powers of the Consumer Advocate (Dec 2009).

In its response, the OFT welcomed the proposal to introduce mechanisms for consumer collective redress and return of funds recovered by overseas enforcement bodies to UK consumers. A publicly funded Consumer Advocate whould be well placed to operate these mechanisms and the OFT supported the introduction of powers to enable the Consumer Advocate to perform such a role.
