Change the details of a credit licence

You must not engage in licensable credit activities under a name that is not on your licence. If you are going to change your details, you must let us know.

To let us know about changes, you will have to complete one of the following:

Variation application

Variations are for changes to:

  • a licence holder's name
  • add or remove trading names
  • add or remove licence categories.

You will be charged a fee to vary your licence.

Licences cannot be transferred so if you change the structure of your business, for example from a partnership to a company, you will need to apply for a new licence.

Additionally, if you are a sole trader you cannot add a limited company name as a trading name.

To vary your licence, fill in the online application.

For more information, see General Notice 71 (pdf 223kb).

Notification form

Notifications are for changes to

  • addresses
  • partners, members, directors, company secretaries and people involved in running the business.

You must notify changes in particulars entered in the Public Register within 21 working days of the change. Failure to notify renders you open to a fine or imprisonment.

Changes to company controllers for a limited company or limited liability partnership:

What is a controller?
A controller is an individual, company or other organisation that:

  • normally tells the directors how to act
    or
  • owns or controls (alone or with an associate) one third or more of the votes in the business.

To notify us of changes, fill in the online form

There is no fee for notification of these changes.

In addition, see GN75 about other circumstances which you are required to notify us about within 28 days.
