Find out how to tell the OFT about a suspected cartel.
If you suspect that a cartel is operating, telephone the OFT's cartel hotline 0800 085 1664 or email cartelshotline@oft.gsi.gov.uk. If you leave a message, a member of the cartels investigation branch will contact you to discuss your concerns.
The OFT has substantial powers to investigate complaints if it has reasonable grounds for suspecting that the Competition Act and/or Article 81 of the EC Treaty have been infringed or that a criminal offence under the Enterprise Act has been committed. If the information you provide is sufficient to give the OFT such grounds, an investigation may be launched. If not, the OFT might use it as the basis for informal inquiries.
Complaints are vitally important in the OFT's campaign to stamp out cartels. The more information you can provide, the better equipped the OFT will be to take action. Remember, cartels result in higher prices, poorer quality and less or no choice. Helping the OFT to break up a cartel will benefit your business and your customers.
